Demco Oil Mediums
Mineral Spirit: Odourless mineral spirits
can be used for thinning oil paint as well as clean up. Requires adequate ventilation.
Retouching Varnish: Temporary protection of
oil paintings, and can revive discoloured (matte) patches of a painting.
Picture Varnish: A durable, final picture varnish that will not yellow.
Stand Oil & Linseed Oil: These mediums increase the transparency and flow of oil paints.
Stand Oil is even glossier than Linseed Oil,
although both can be used for glazing.
Siccative: Speeds up the drying time of oil
colours. Must be used sparingly. Can be thinned with white mineral spirits.
Turpentine: Reduces the consistency of oil
paints and can be used as a cleaner for brushes. Used as a thinner for oil varnishes also.
