W&N Artisan Water-Mixable Oil Painting Mediums



W&N Artisan Water Mixable Oil Paint has mediums including Linseed Oil, Stand Oil, Painting Medium, Fast Drying Medium and Impasto Medium. These specially formulated mediums ensure that traditional oil painting techniques can still be achieved.

Conventional oil mediums could be mixed with Artisan Water Mixable mediums, but it is not recommended. The combination of conventional oil mediums and Artisan Oils will require the use of solvents instead of water. The structure of Artisan paints will be under less stress over time if these mixtures are avoided. Water-Mixable Oil Mediums should be used exclusively with Artisan paints in order to benefit from the use of water instead of solvents.

W&N Artisan Water Mixable Painting Medium: This medium thins the consistency of Artisan oil colours and aids in fine detail work. It improves the flow and wetting of the paint. It dries slowly to a flexible film and is good for oiling out. Oiling out is the application of an oil medium to a painting which has sunk, or lost its oil to the layer underneath.
W&N Artisan Water Mixable Fast Drying Medium: This medium improves the flow and speeds up the drying time of Artisan oil colours. It also smoothes out brushwork, increases gloss and transparency. Artisan Fast Drying medium is ideal for glazing and will not yellow.
W&N Artisan Water Mixable Linseed Oil: This reduces the consistency and improves the flow of Artisan oil colours. It also increases their gloss and transparency.
W&N Artisan Water Mixable Stand Oil: This medium improves the flow and levelling of Artisan oil colours. Ideal for glazing and producing fine detail as it smoothes out brushwork. Stand Oil is slow drying.
W&N Artisan Water Mixable Impasto Medium: this meduim is intended for painting in an impasto style, when heavy bodied colour is desired. Always mix it thoroughly into the oil colour. For thick impasto, build the texture in several layers allowing each layer to dry first. This medium also speeds up the drying time.
