Winsor & Newton Artist's Oil Paints
Oil paint offers the artist endless creative possibilities, they can pursue traditional techniques of blending
and glazing or try impasto and scumbling. Winsor & Newton first began making oil colours in
1832, shortly after they developed their reputation for excellence
and consistency. Presently, the Artists' Oil Colour range of 114 colours offers a wide
spectrum and a high level of pigmentation consistent with excellent handling
properties. It has unsurpassed covering power and improvements in permanence to
the extent that 111 out of 114 Colors are classed as permanent for artists' use.
The colours of the range are selected according to masstone (color from tube),
undertone (bias of color when in a thin film), strength and relative opacity.
All colours within the range are intermixable
and can also be combined with other Winsor & Newton oil products. The only exceptions are that is not reccommended that
(a)Using thin alkyd films over thick oil and (b)Using thick Oilbar films under oil films.
A wide variety of mediums are also available to alter certain characteristics
of oils such as consistency, gloss, drying rate and texture. Oil Paints are available in 37ml and 120ml tubes.
